DIY PAPER WALLET.

Diy Folded Paper Wallet

DIY Paper Wallet.

Everyone needs a wallet, right? I made this beautiful paper wallet out of some pages I had left over from a sticker art book. Of course you could make it with any kind of patterned paper as long as it's at least standard A4 size and you have 2 sheets.

This project took around 30 minutes although I would recommend practicing on some scrap paper first. I'll be honest, I have no idea how long my paper wallet will last but I do know it's quite possibly the prettiest wallet I've ever seen. If you're concerned with the paper tearing a good idea would be to cover the paper in sticky back plastic first to make it a little more durable.

SUPPLIES:

1. Take your patterned paper and flip it over. If you have a double-sided paper like I do you want the side you don't want showing facing up.

2. Mark 3½ inches up from the bottom of the paper. Fold the bottom of the paper up at the 3½ inch mark.

2. Fold the top of the paper down using the previous fold as a guide. Make sure to fold the paper as close as you can to the edge of the paper.

3. When you flip the paper over you should have a small overlap at the top. Flip the paper back over and fold the overlap down. Don't worry this part doesn't have to be too accurate. Trim off the overlap.

4. Open the paper back out and lay flat. It should now be divided into thirds. Fold the 2 long sides in about ½ cm.

5. Cut in the ½ cm flap at the first fold up from the bottom. Do this on both sides.

6. Stick some double-sided tape to the middle third of the ½ cm flaps. Remove the backing from the tape and fold down the top third. Press down firmly to stick.

7. Add some more double-sided tape to the last 2 flaps. Remove the backing from 1 of the flaps only. Fold the bottom up and stick down so your paper is open at one side. This will help make a nice neat fold in the next step.

8. With only one side stuck down line up the edges and fold the paper in half. With the paper wallet still folded remove the last piece of tape and stick down by folding in half again.

9. You should now have a basic wallet with a pocket.

10. The next step is to make the card holder inserts. Take another piece of patterned paper, fold and trim in half.

11. Place a card on the paper strip and fold the bottom of the paper up so it covers about ¾ of the card.

12. Fold the top of the paper down and behind leaving a small lip above the card. Fold the paper back up on itself to make what will be a small flap. From the side it should look a lightening bolt.

13. Trim away the excess paper to leave you with a small flap like in the square 2nd up from the bottom left. Use some more double-sided tape and stick down the flap.

14. Line up the card in the middle of your folded paper and fold back both the sides to make a pocket for your card. Stick down the 2 sides you just folded back to the inside of your paper wallet. This way you'll be able to store 2 cards in each card holder.

15. Repeat steps 10-14 to make a 2nd card holder and stick it down on top of the previous one.

And there's your brand new paper wallet. Add your cash and cards and you're all set.

How cute would one of these be with a gift card tucked inside? After all, gift cards need pretty packaging just as much as big boxed gifts do.

Easy Origami Wall Art

DIY Origami Wall Art.

I was looking for a cheap and easy way to create some art to go in the living room when I remembered this folded paper wall art tutorial from How About Orange. It's a simple diy that I think adds a lot of impact to a room and can really brighten up a neglected corner.

I've changed mine up slightly from the original inspiration and instead of having the white of the paper showing through I decided to fold mine so the colour could be seen on the inside as well.

To do this I made each square using the first few steps of an origami fortune teller. I made the whole thing in around an hour, not long at all. Here's how I did it.

If you’re new to origami make sure to check out these 3 Basic Origami Folds For Beginners.

Supplies:

  • Origami Paper - This paper is specifically designed for origami and comes in a variety of different colours and patterns.

  • Bone Folder - You can use a bone folder to help make crisp creases in the paper.

  • Card - To mount your finished piece on.

  • Glue.

It's worth noting that while I always recommend using origami paper you can make origami with many different types of paper. If you don’t have any origami paper on hand here are a few alternatives that you probably already have at home.

  • Regular Printer Paper,

  • Gift Wrap,

  • Magazine Pages,

  • Newspaper,

  • Maps,

  • Colouring Book Pages,

  • Old Books,

  • And Newspapers.

I even have some printable origami paper you can download and use for FREE. Simply download, print and cut into 7x7-inch squares.

1. Take your origami paper and fold in half along both diagonals.

2. Open it back out and fold each of the corners into the center.

3. Flip your paper over and fold all the corners into the center again.

4. Arrange your design and cut a piece of foam board or cardboard to size.

5. To finish use a glue stick or some double-sided tape and secure your origami pieces to the card.

What do you think? I know blank walls can seem like quite a daunting challenge so I think this is the perfect quick solution.

I've got it on the picture ledge above the sofa at the moment but I think I might move it to hang above my desk instead.

DIY CREPE PAPER PEONIES

DIY Paper Peonies.

I've had how to make crepe paper flowers on my to-do list for quite a while now. I finally decided to give it a go last week and after a couple of disappointing experiments, I now have a crepe paper peony I'm excited to share with you.

How To Make Crepe Paper Peonies.

1. Start by cutting out all your pieces.

2. Print and cut out the template and trace around it to make 6 of the small petals and 7 of the large ones.

Make sure the grain of the crepe paper is running vertically as this will help when it comes to shaping the petals.

3. Cut a square of yellow crepe paper measuring 3 x 3 inches and a long strip measuring 7 x 2 inches.

4. Add some glue to the end of the floral wire and insert into the bottom of the foam ball. Wrap the square of yellow crepe paper around the ball.

Use floral tape to secure the excess paper.

5. To make the stamen take the strip of yellow crepe paper and cut halfway down to make a fringe.

6. Apply some glue or double-sided tape to the bottom of the strip and wrap it around the wire.

Use some more floral tape to secure the excess paper.

7. Take your petals and using your thumbs push away from the centre to shape each one.

8. Apply a little glue to the bottom of each smaller petal and stick them to the stem. Make sure to overlap each of the petals as you go.

9. Next glue on the larger petals and shape the flower.

10. To finish cover the bottom of your flower and the wire by wrapping around some more floral tape.

Display your crepe paper peonies in a vase or use them as eye-catching gift toppers.

I loved how easy the crepe paper was to work with and even though you don't get that amazing scent with the paper version you do get a bloom that will last and last.
