Origami Heart Bookmark.
I’m back with the second Valentine’s Day Origami project. If you’re looking for a sweet little DIY gift to give to a loved one why not fold an origami heart bookmark.
These heart-shaped bookmarks are such a cute way to say ‘I love you’ and make a fantastic handmade Valentine’s Day gift.
I don’t know about you, but even though I try my best to be organised I’m definitely a last-minute kind of person when it comes to Valentine’s Day gifts. So anything I can make quickly and easily is always going to be a winner in my eyes.
These heart-shaped bookmarks are a fun origami project that fits the quick and easy bill perfectly.
Paper Heart Bookmark.
For anyone new to origami, don’t be put off. These easy paper DIY bookmarks are an ideal place to start. They’re easy to fold, make a nice practical gift and are sure to impress.
Added bonus, you don’t any fancy materials for this project. A simple square of paper, your hands and of course a little love is all you need.
Materials:
A pair of scissors (optional). I use these Fiskars scissors for absolutely everything but if you’re looking for something with a bit more precision I like these small curved craft scissors (also from Fiskars) but beware they are very sharp!
For me, nothing beats the traditional red but you could make these hearts in whatever patterns and colours you like. How about these gorgeous galaxy prints? Aren’t they fantastic?
If you’ve never folded any origami before I recommend you take a look at my 3 BASIC ORIGAMI FOLDS FOR BEGINNERS. It shows you the how-to fold a mountain fold, valley fold and a squash fold which are all used in this model.
How to Make a Heart Bookmark.
1. Take your piece of paper, place it colour side down and fold in half, fold it in half again and open it out.
2. Fold the bottom edge up to meet the centre crease.
3. Flip your paper over.
4. Fold up the left side to meet the centre crease. Do the same for the right. You should now have two triangles.
5. Flip it back over and bring the point of the triangle up to the top edge of the paper.
6. Turn it over again. It should have two rectangles (red in the photo above) at the bottom.
7. Open out one of the rectangles and press flat to form a triangle.
8. Repeat on the other side.
9. You should now have two small squares on either side of the triangle you've just created. Fold these in to make two smaller triangles.
10. Turn it back over.
11. Either fold back or cut off the sides to form your finished origami heart bookmark.
I like to cut the sides off mine as I find them too bulky when they're folded but you could easily leave them on if you don't mind. It's totally up to you.
12. Pop it on a book and get reading.
Got a bookworm in your life? Slip one into their favourite book before wrapping or pop one into a favourite book of romantic poetry. It’s a thoughtful handmade touch that’s bound to impress.
